Early History:
After the Opium War, the British introduced cricket from England to Hong Kong, and Hong Kong's first recorded cricket match was played in 1841. The match between Hong Kong and Shanghai in 1866 was the first time the Hong Kong team played against a team from other places. In 1892, after the Hong Kong team visited Shanghai, the boat on the return trip encountered a typhoon, killing 125 people. Among the 23 surviving people, 2 were members of the Hong Kong team, while the other 11 members died unfortunately.
Since 1982, the Hong Kong team has played in the International Cricket Association Champions Cup (ICC), only to be eliminated in the first round.
